June in New York is Pride Month, the month-long opportunity to celebrate love and the diversity of all people in the LGBTQ+ community, bookended by the flamboyantly, exciting party that is the Pride parade. The streets from down in the West Village, all the way up to the Flatiron District become the most colorful paradise during the parade, littered with glitter, full of bubbles and confetti and most importantly, surrounded by the the visual representation of the LGBTQ+ community: the rainbow flag.
As most parades go, people gather and walk together in solidarity as one as a means to celebrate, be proud and inclusive of themselves and their fellow neighbors. New York is and always has been a sanctuary for every kind of person, diversity being especially important for New Yorkers. The Stonewall Riots that occurred in our very city, in GreenwichΒ Village literally paved the way for gay liberation in the whole of theΒ United States, which happened on this exact date, in the late 60s. Growing up in New York makes it so much easier to be accepting of our peers and has made us be more open, respectful, and receptive to accept others for who they really are without any preconceived notions or judgments. Gay Pride is, therefore, no exception. Besides, it is the ultimate party.
Below you can see some photos from Sunday’s parade. Enjoy! #loveislove
