Valencia, Spain: A Photo Diary

valencia 1

I took a spontaneous trip to Valencia, Spain at the end of January. I had been itching to be back abroad, and the best, quickest, and cheapest way I knew how was to be an Au Pair for a few months. I chose a city that I didn’t know too much about. Valencia is the third largest city in Spain after Barcelona and Madrid. Though I haven’t explored all of Spain’s major cities, Diana and I did go to Barcelona back in 2015 and loved every second of it. Personally, I knew little about Valencia as a city. Spain, as a country, however, I knew a thing or two about. For starters, it is a relatively cheap country to live in, the people are warm and hospitable, and the culture and language are aspects I know pretty well (thanks, Mom). Spain was also the only place I could think where winter acts more like spring. With February right around the corner in New York, it was a no-brainer of the countries I could choose from. While on the search, I found a great family who saw me a perfect fit for their daughter’s needs. I was also allowed to stay with my host family in their house, so finding accommodation and preparing meals were all included in this opportunity. It was settled. I knew I had to go.

I was both excited and nervous to stay in another city let alone live in another country for more than a few weeks and by myself, as Diana stayed in New York, of course. Nevertheless, my time as an Au Pair proved to be a great, albeit too short of a life experience that I continue to miss daily. It’s a good thing I have tons of photos to remind me of my time well spent there and to take me back when I’m feeling nostalgic, which has become an everyday feeling even months later. The only solution now is to wait until I go back again to visit, which I hope to be very soon.

Here’s Part One of my Valencia, Spain Photo Diary.

There’s so much old and new architecture Spain! In Valencia, you can see who had invaded where based on the designs. Lots of Christian architecture built on top of Muslim architecture. And of course the modern day architecture!
